This music was recorded right after the trio's return from a fourth tour of beautiful New Zealand.  There may be no more inspiring surroundings for music making. Tom Warrington, Larry Koonse and Joe La Barbera are unmatched for their elegantly interactive playing, and New Zealand simply oozes enchantment, both through its breathtaking geography and its warm and receptive people.  The empathy of spirit among these three musicians is captivating, and their music will touch your soul. The CD features compositions by each member of the trio and is dedicated to Nelson, a tiny rescue kitten that showed up one day and, after nine years, disappeared, leaving only his name tag and collar behind.

The Mountain

"The Mountain" is the third Jazz Compass release by bassist/composer Tom Warrington and his exquisite trio, with beautifully expressive guitarist Larry Koonse and consummate veteran drummer Joe La Barbera.
The musical material is the most diverse and adventurous to date, with seven original compositions and two standards arranged with a variety of instrumental textures, including the addition of brilliant saxophone soloist Bob Sheppard on four tracks.
